Metallic Leafing:

Poikilia

This body of work, inspired by the Greek term Poikilia, explores variations in surface, color, and layered assemblage to evoke mystery and sensuousness. While Poikilia is often associated with Byzantine design and the iconography of the Middle Ages illuminated by divine light, it also embodies a fluid, transformative idea. That elasticity finds resonance in the diverse qualities of synthetic Yupo paper and polymer-based paints and mediums. By weaving together echoes of the past with materials of the present, each piece seeks to visualize beauty and mystery through the interplay of metallic leaf and contemporary media. My intent is to create paintings that transcend time—works that draw you inward, inviting quiet reflection as you contemplate their shifting, luminous surfaces.
